CANTON Canton's black community had every reason to riot 40 years ago. Unemployment and school dropout rates for blacks were high — higher than cities such as Cleveland that did have riots. Blacks were largely invisible in leadership positions and completely absent on Canton's safety forces.

Cherokee couple credits March of Dimes for saving child's life (Cherokee Tribune)
The 3-year-old son of John and Michelle Norris of Hickory Flat would not be alive if it weren't for the March of Dimes. The couple credits the organization's push to stamp out premature births with saving the life of their son, Jace.
Fogarty now deputy director for library system (The Dalton Daily Citizen)
Nicholas Fogarty has been named deputy director for the Northwest Georgia Regional Library System headquartered in Dalton. The system serves Whitfield, Gordon and Murray counties.
